07′ BMW 335i 6 speed transmission with 45k miles was repaired in San Jose for $3,700 at Leale’s, but at the dealer it would have been almost 10k.
The BMW Paddling Shifting Transmission was slipping in gear, delivering hard up & down shifting and would drift backwards when shifted into neutral.
No check engine light ever cam on from the twin turbo BMW which made it difficult for the dealer to diagnose. Dealer’s don’t do on-site transmission rebuilding. They don’t train their technicians to rebuild transmissions so they don’t have the troubleshooting skills and knowledge. If the BMW Transmission repair is external and basic they will perform the repair but typically at a huge cost.
Leale’s quickly diagnosed the problem to be the Mechatronics Module (Valve Body with 7 solenoids) and then fixed it for less. But there was also an internal problem that required the transmission to be dissembled and examined. A broken spring was found and replaced as well as a few seals, the transmission was re-assembled, a new Mechatronics Module was installed and the system was reprogrammed to shift and operate correctly.
